Performance Appraisal and Its Negative Feedback Essay Example for Free
Performance Appraisal and Its Negative Feedback Essay A performance appraisal system had been established in that firm several years ago. The management with the help of consultants, conducted several innovative experiments and introduced many improvements in their existing system. The company believes that the system of performance appraisal is a strong tool and if it is wrongly rated, the results may mar . It printed on the format , a flowchart with full details mentioning dates and months for execution. At first ,it would go to the appraisee who would write down, if any, all his non-routine and excellent achievements in the self-appraisal column. Then the rather, his immediate boss ,would put his remarks on this and would rate the appraise by ticking ââ¬Ëoutstanding, good, fair and unsatisfactoryââ¬â¢ on the columns of quality of output, job knowledge, decision-making, communication skills, human relations, planning and organizing, creativity and initiative, leadership, time management etc. The reviewer would thoroughly review column by column and would give his opinion. Before it was sent to the top management for better transparency, the signature of the appraisee was obtained. This system was in vogue and the management took pride in this modified system, which resulted in retention of employees. The blank form was given to SD Misra ,Manager (HR),a very sincere and a highly dedicated employee, who had achieved ââ¬Ëoutstandingââ¬â¢ rank for the last six years, for writing in the self-appraisal column. He did certain critical jobs during the year and wrote three. One, the industry suffered a scarcity of water during summer, which affected their industrial canteen also. Misra who was in-charge of the canteen, went to the small dam from where they receive water. He found the pipeline supplying water to the industryââ¬â¢s main pump during night time everyday. One night, he went along with his assistant and observed to his surprise that the employee of the dam has closed the valve of their pipeline and had opened another valve for supply of water to another company. They caught that person and stopped this malpractise and continued to visit that place during nights for more than a week. The problem of scarcity of water was solved with this initiative. Two, there was an accident just outside the factoryââ¬â¢s gate where one of the employees was killed by a speeding lorry. It was about 2:15 p. m. when Misra received this sad news. He rushed to the spot and identified the employee. The doctor of their first-aid was brought who declared the employee dead. He took the responsibility of breaking this news to his family staying at a village at a distance of 12 kms. He met the police, who had already reached the accident spot, and ccompletely involved himself in the whole job of police formalities, post-mortem of the body. Due to some politicianââ¬â¢s interference, the family members refused to accept the body till the management promised a job for one of the family members of the deceased. Misra made successful negotiations with the family, which gave up its agitation and accepted the body for the cremation. He received two appreciation letters from MD for these two successful achievements. Three, once Misra arranged a meeting for finalizing a three-day in-house training programme at one of their group companies,73 kms away. He was to go three along with his three colleagues. The driver was told to make jeep ready. Next morning, there were to start by 7 a. m. and all four were present. The driver phoned saying that his daughter was sick and he could not come to duty. Misra was firm in his resolve that ââ¬Å"Our programme goes on as usual and there shall be no postponement. Misra said that he is going to drive the jeep and said â⬠One employee cannot disturb any of our scheduled programmesâ⬠. He drove the jeep to and fro and finished the job successfully. Having written these three achievements in the self appraisal column,he handed them over to his immediate boss, KM Singh, Sr. Manager(HR),in a confidential envelope. KM Singh, who is known to be a procrastinator and lethargic, kept pending all appraisal forms till last day. Further, he had three enquiry reports for study and comments. Out of these, one was a case of suspension pending enquiry. He had kept pending all these reports and appraisals, which had now become urgent. His boss was pressurizing him to complete this jobs immediately. KM Singh took up the suspending pending enquiry case first . It took more than a day. He then began rating nine appraisals and completed the job without any concern for the consequences. The form, with comments of the rater and the reviewer, came back to Misra for his signature. He was shocked and reacted very sharply. It was an ââ¬Ëunsatisfactoryââ¬â¢ appraisal which he had seen for the first time. The cool and gentle Misra lost all his patience. He now began thinking. KM Singh wanted to promote his junior, Srivastav, and had deliberately spoiled his appraisal.

Mother Daughter Relationship in Two Kinds by Amy Tan :: Two Kinds, Amy Tan
Iââ¬â¢m not You, Iââ¬â¢m Me For many of us growing up, our mothers have been a part of who we are. They have been there when our world was falling apart, when we fell ill to the flu, and most importantly, the one to love us when we needed it the most. In ââ¬Å"Two Kindsâ⬠by Amy Tan, it begins with a brief introduction to one motherââ¬â¢s interpretation of the American Dream. Losing her family in China, she now hopes to recapture part of her loss through her daughter. However, the young girl, Ni Kan, mimics her motherââ¬â¢s dreams and ultimately rebels against them. In the beginning, Ni Kan, is ââ¬Å"just as excited as [her] motherâ⬠about the idea of becoming a prodigy (749). She imagines herself in different roles and believes that once she has ââ¬Å"become perfect,â⬠(749) her parents will approve of her. However, her motherââ¬â¢s obsession becomes extreme when she is forced to take numerous tests on a daily basis. Ni Kan points out, ââ¬Å"The tests [are] harder- multiplying numbers in my head without using my hands, predicting the daily temperatures in Los Angeles, New York, and Londonâ⬠(749). Eventually, her mother persuades her into taking piano lessons, which becomes the prime focus of determination. As the story unfolds, Tan suggests that the piano symbolizes different things. For Ni Kan, it is the unwanted pressure her mother inflicts upon. She argues, ââ¬Å"Why donââ¬â¢t you like me the way I am? Iââ¬â¢m not a genius! I canââ¬â¢t play the pianoâ⬠(751). However, her mother sees it as a way for her daughter to become the best. Ultimately, the young girl decides to rebel against her motherââ¬â¢s wishes. During her piano lessons with Mr. Chong, her piano teacher, she learns easy ways to get out of practicing. Ni Kan discovers ââ¬Å"that Old Chongââ¬â¢s eyes were too slow to keep up with the wrong notes [she] was playingâ⬠(751). As a result, Ni Kan performs miserably in a talent show where her parents and friends from the Joy Luck Club attend. Feeling the disapproval and shame from her mother, she decides to stop practicing the piano.

Differences Between Beowulf and Achilles Essay
Beowulf and Achilles are different in many ways; one of which is their character. Beowulf is a great warrior and leader who fought to protect his soldiers and to make places more peaceful. He also perfectly embodies the values of loyalty, pride, and courtesy. Achilles, on the other hand, is not as heroic as Beowulf, even thought he was also a great warrior and had superhuman strength, he mostly fought for revenge, social position, and power. He was driven by a thirst for glory. Beowulf went on journeys because he wanted to show people that he is a reliable leader and that he can fight pretty much anyone from monsters to dragons and all the other kind of creatures. He also wanted to show people how brave and protective he was. Like the story of his fight with Grendel shows everyone how smart he is about certain things and how he is not afraid of doing anything. The part of the story where Beowulf killed the sea monster shows that he is a reliable warrior and that he gets his job done no matter what he has to do. As I stated earlier, Achilles mostly fought for social position and power, and the death of his best friend Patroclus, didnââ¬â¢t make Achilles more deliberative or self-reflective, wrath, pride, and bloodlust still consumed him. Achilles would also sacrifice everything just so that his name would be remembered. Which shows that the only that he mostly cares about was himself and what people thought of him. In my opinion Beowulf is more courageous because he would do just about anything to protect his people and that he is not afraid of anything. He also does that so people would find him as a reliable leader and wouldnââ¬â¢t be afraid to be his followers. I also think that he is more like a true epic hero because unlike Achilles, Beowulf isnââ¬â¢t selfish and he doesnââ¬â¢t seek for power or glory. He was a great warrior even though he didnââ¬â¢t become a king for many years. Beowulf was also more reliable than Achilles, because Beowulf cared about everyone, not just himself unlike Achilles.

Analysis Of The Poem Heritage By Linda Hogan - 954 Words
Everyone inherits something during life, whether it be money from a recently deceased relative or physical features from parents. Throughout the poem ââ¬Å"Heritageâ⬠by Linda Hogan, the narrator remembers all the traits and lessons that she has garnered from her kin. A superficial reader of the poem might assume that the narrator is simply reflecting on said traits and lessons, but in reality she is actually attempting to illuminate and reconcile the differences in her life. During the entirety of the poem the speaker uses the contrast of light and dark to illustrate the divide of Caucasian and Native American in her life and the specific wording she uses throughout shows that she is ends up moving away from her white heritageââ¬â¢s side. We first start to see that she is upset with her white roots when she states that her mother left her with ââ¬Å"large white breastsâ⬠that weigh down her body. This statement is quite important. With the addition of the word ââ¬Å" whiteâ⬠and the use of the words ââ¬Å"weigh downâ⬠the narrator seems to be implying that it is a burden to carry the whiteness. Also, the narrator uses specific wording in this statement in order to disassociate herself from her own white leanings since she refers to her breasts as if they were her mothers and not her own. The next time she mentions the word white comes in the third stanza. The speaker devotes an entire line to the short phrase ââ¬Å"and is whiteâ⬠almost as if to single out that word in the poem and signify that being whiteShow MoreRelatedOrganisational Theory230255 Words à |à 922 Pagestheory focuses attention on the human issues in organization ââ¬ËThere is nothing so practical as a good theoryââ¬â¢ How Roethlisberger developed a ââ¬Ëpracticalââ¬â¢ organization theory Column 1: The core contributing social sciences Column 2: The techniques for analysis Column 3: The neo-modernist perspective Column 4: Contributions to business an d management Four combinations of science, scientific technique and the neo-modernist approach reach different parts of the organization Level 1: Developing the organizationRead MoreStephen P. Development, Influence and Impact Free Essays
As parents we continue wondering if the outside influences will be a positive influence on our children as they form relationships. This paper compares the systems of the Bacteriological Model of Human Development by providing examples of the influences on a childââ¬â¢s growth of standard and irregular development in children as well as puberty, the interaction between cognitive, physical, and psychosocial development and its ability to influence overall child development. Development The model of human development has been summarized through Erie Frontbencher one of the worldââ¬â¢s foremost professionals in the field of developmental psychology. We will write a custom essay sample on Development, Influence and Impact or any similar topic only for you Order Now Within the writings of Frontbencher it is understood that his belief in the development of children is not Just one thing or system; Frontbencher reports there are numerous outside influences that help mold the childââ¬â¢s personality/character (1990). The Microsystems stands for the connotations concerning other Microsystems. For example, how the family relates to the school, church as well as to how the family interact with their peers. The Ecosystem associates the social setting that a person does not have an active role. For example, a spouseââ¬â¢s or youthââ¬â¢s knowledge at home possibly will be swayed by a momââ¬â¢s Involvements at work. For instance letââ¬â¢s say the mom received an advancement that necessitates additional travel, this could cause an argument between she and the husband that in turns changes the communication all use with each other. When addressing the Microsystems we address the culture In which persons live. Everyoneââ¬â¢s Microsystems grows and changes over time, each continual peer group could change the Microsystems that Is unique to each person (Call, R. V. , Caving, J. C. 2010). The Imitating of ecological actions In Dalton to the changes that occur such as divorce Is an example of the final system called the Chronometers. Influence It is clear along with the usual role of educating; schools have a larger part to play in the progress of our children. However, they cannot and should not be the only responsible fragment of our childrenââ¬â¢s education/development. Along with the incorporated into the Micro-system which makes a childââ¬â¢s Microsystems complete (Beer 2000). When communication is poor between different micro-systems, more gig risk people develop and are more unlikely to adjust in the general public. To reach the best outcomes for a child, stimulating yet active styles must be combined in the teaching method. The family is the most powerful unit of the Microsystems and such as controls how the youth performs in school. For that reason it demands that the school and the family interact to yield the best results. The family generates an inspiring atmosphere by getting involved with their childrenââ¬â¢s accomplishments (Addison 1992). The parental/school collaboration exists because it is the general public that allocates all the means to the school. Furthermore, the public also defines what material and which programs will be used in the school curriculum. Unfortunately in many of our school districts children do not have an equal playing field nor do they have the opportunity to succeed as well as learn equally as individuals. One of the key reasons for this is directly traced to the childââ¬â¢s socioeconomic standing; a familyââ¬â¢s socioeconomic status is based on family income, parental education level, parental occupation, in addition to their social status within the community. According to Frontbencher (1990), outcomes uncovered that children from upper class cultures have a better chance of success than children of low income families. In addition, upper class individuals have the chance to go to better schools with better/healthier services. However, not all children who come from poor backgrounds are assured to fail but then the following circumstances need to be accessible; there needs to be an atmosphere at home that stimulates the child to study, the family sets reasonably high expectations for their children as well as the family is involved with the child in avian fun, recognizing the accomplishments of the child and then praising the child for their effort. One of the main barriers for lower class families is the lack of ability to enroll their children in extracurricular activities, for example, after school programs, summer camps etc. I agree with Beer (2000) when stating the experience or impact the child brings with them into the classroom can be in itself an incentive or motivating factor for success. Children from poor backgrounds will try to be successful so that they can escape the difficulties that they have experienced. On the other hand, since children with upper class parents have many more opportunities than those from a lower income status, they may see no need to work hard. In this case, chance has no part to play in how well a child does in school. Need is what drives children to grab the chances that come their way. Just as it is stated that not all poor children will fail in becoming successful not all upper class children have had the proverbial spoon feeding. Brotherlinessââ¬â¢s biological methods are focused on the quality as well as circumstance of the childââ¬â¢s surroundings. He states that as a child ages, the message inside these surroundings come to be more complicated. This complexity can increase as the childââ¬â¢s physical and cognitive structures grow and develop. For example, our economy has moved from a manufacturing model to a technical model; however the designs of the office have been determined by the faith of the manufacturing work code. Adults/parents are likely to work a schedule that revolves enables workers to be free of manual labor should free them from the time, place boundary restriction which would allow more participation from parents. Impact Our views of learning and development have changed dramatically over the past several decades. Our perspective has changed from seeing learning as an individual and passive experience to recognizing learning as an active, dynamic and developmental process. We now understand learning and growth as happening surrounded by a broader context of persons, places, and natural settings. Family life in this country has taken a back seat to the needs of the workplace. Also the debt model used to decide the level of support allowed by the public to low income familyââ¬â¢s needs to be review, and revised. Adults must announce themselves to need in order to meet the requirements for help that may possibly have come about because of our national price of freedom. The more amount of failure reported means a larger amount of possible support the family could receive. If it is not enough we ask the family to demoralize themselves by taking what pride they have we expect them to have the mental strength to climb up the thread that had been thrown for assistance. The volatility and impulsiveness of family life that we have let our budget generate is the greatest damaging force to a childââ¬â¢s growth (Addison, 992). Children do not have the endless interaction with significant adults that is necessary for their development. According to Frontbencher we must nurture social outlooks that value work completed on behalf of children at all levels: patisseries, educators, extended family, counselors, work administrators, lawmakers. The bio ecological systems theory combines sociology and thinking, through persons, and their surroundings influencing one another. Families continue to struggle balancing work and family [micro-system and ex. system]. Laws pressure and even est. the very existence of some people, for example, migrant inhabitants who cannot live together with their relatives [micro-system and macro-system]; treacherous regions or possibly schools that create wild and disloyal troposphere for families and children [micro-system and macro-system]. Brotherlinessââ¬â¢s model shows how the individual matures inside, how the person is swayed and also by identifying the affects the systems [Coloratura context]. Relationships and Interactions To have the greatest effect, supports need to be flexible, balancing one another, moving in and out of their comfort zone. Collaborating with an available set of community wide assets that support learning as well as adult influences on the childââ¬â¢s community growth; this can be divided into direct and indirect patterns of influence. Direct influence is linked with a parent or caregivers personal intervention or guidance of a young childââ¬â¢s social attitudes, reactions and behaviors. Indirect influence is related with a parentââ¬â¢s or caregivers example and the atmosphere he or she creates for children to comprehend in addition to supervising social contacts. Parents and other adults influence children in both direct and indirect ways. For example, a parent could help a child Join a group of children playing a game together; this is an example of a direct influence. An indirect example could look like a teacher who spent a little time counseling a specific student while other students observed; they come to the conclusion through this observation that the teacher who was spending the time with their friend is now seen as approachable. With social examples. Parents and other adults often are unconscious teachers of young children. Young children may sift through and cast off the information parents or other adults consciously try to teach them. But the pattern a parent or caregiver demonstrates in how to treat others tends to leave a more powerful and lasting impression. Practice Positive Discipline, the discipline style of parents or caregivers can have a large influence on childrenââ¬â¢s social skills. Children seem to learn how to interact with others from the model their parents use with them. A very important action a caregiver can give to each child is finding playmates for their children, setting play dates for their children. Enrolling children in organized social activities, such as swimming, soccer, preschool, 4-H clubs, helping children achieve access to a social position by making introductions, participating in a game with other children, etc. Encouraging children to practice appropriate social interaction, such as sharing toys, asking for favors, saying please and thank you, in addition to arranging and organizing a play group that meets regularly, providing your home or yard for a play environment, giving some supervision to the play Parents and caregivers can model positive conflict resolution for children. If possible, parents and other adults should use disputes as an opportunity to teach ND demonstrate peaceful ways of negotiating and compromising to children. Parents and caregivers can step in to help children negotiate differences with others and mediate for them as needed when they are not getting along with others. Model effective conflict resolution and encourage appropriate behavior. Be a positive example of working through conflict or differences with others. Practice parental coaching, which involves varying levels of supervision based on a childââ¬â¢s age and needs, and superseding as needed when social situations become too challenging for young child to manage. Supervision of social interactions should become less intense and less obvious as children grow older, taking place more from a distance. With older children, children can be coached on their interpersonal relationships in private and with follow-up. Coaching and supervision may inhibit social development if done harshly for example, if the parent is overly involved [poor boundaries] or uses physical force or aggressive verbal communication to intervene. Conclusion While there is no crystal ball and only hind sight is 20/20, the birth of a child signifies the beginning of a new life. New lives that are unprotected and will be subjected to several significant experiences that will play have a major influence on the growth of the child. Even though every child born is different from any other we have discussed the one constant that all children need weather they come from a family of means or a family that has little to offer financially. Children are looking for the affirmations that should be present within their home and with the child/parent/ caregiver relationship. However when the person is missing that bond he or she will kook for attention in unsuitable places; and unfortunately especially in adolescence they will learn anti-social behavior, display a lack of self-discipline, as well as have the inability to provide self-direction (Addison, 1992).
